Our Ideal Candidate

Spirit Bear Lodge is seeking dynamic wildlife guides with a passion for the coastal wildlife of British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience relevant to guiding in outdoor wilderness areas and will have a keen interest in local wildlife ecology, natural history, and First Nations culture. They must be comfortable leading groups of 8-10 people in a remote setting and have some experience operating small marine vessels. Energy, passion, and reliability are musts; plus they need to have excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities (Include but not limited to the following)

  • Meet guests on arrival and make introductions help with luggage and assigned accommodation
  • Lead tour groups in the remote wilderness of the British Columbia central coast; advise guests of natural history and wildlife ecology.
  • Attend to operational problems such as unfavorable weather conditions, first aid, and ensure guest comfort while out in the field
  • Keep in touch with skippers and lodge via VHF radio
  • Maintain written reports of daily activities and carry out other administrative work
  • Help maintain and store all gear
  • Present evening presentations

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications: 

Required Certification Prior to Contract Start Date

  • Current Wilderness First Aid (minimum 40hrs)
  • Small Vessel Operator's Proficiency certificate (SVOP)
  • Marine Emergency Duties A3 (MED A3)
  • Restricted Operator’s Certificate (ROC)
  • Bear Guide Endorsement

Compensation

  • Experience and Certification will dictate daily rate compensation
  • Shared gratuity between all Spirit Bear Lodge employees
  • Some training and certification may be provided
  • Meals and accommodation provided
  • Transportation stipend
