Vancouver, BC - Pacific Yellowfin Charters - Relief Deckhand

An eligible candidate will be legally able to work in Canada,

The M/V Pacific Yellowfin is currently looking for a Deckhand to provide relief for the full-time deckhand and start training for the 2018 season. The yacht is currently in Vancouver, Canada. Through the summer, we travel up the Central Coast of BC, working through ports from Quadra Island to Kitimat.

You are a qualified deckhand who excels in an environment with experience on the BC coast experience with high-end luxury yachts would be an asset to the overall success of the vessel operations team. You will be helping with all ships procedures and systems including, setting up taking down our 40’ slide, setting up and putting away guest adventures (kayaking, SUPs, tubing, fishing, wakeboarding/waterskiing etc.) all with a smile and an all-day good attitude.

TYPICAL DAY

• Under the Supervision of Captain, carries out general deck duties to support Yacht and its adventure operations including guiding, cleaning, maintaining ships adventure equipment, driving small tenders.

• Provides generalship upkeep and maintenance, including cleaning ships equipment and helping with dinner service  

• May perform other related duties as assigned including helping the engineer, captain, chef, and stewardess.

  • Safely and efficiently operating the tenders

  • Preparing guest excursions, hiking/kayaking/fishing etc.

  • Maintaining external boat cleanliness

  • Working independently and together

  • Preparing all equipment for guest excursions

  • Assisting with docking of the ship

  • Assisting in the safe maneuvering of the ship

  • Bridge watch

  • Checking the ship routinely for improvements, lines, ropes, organization.

  • Assisting with every aspect of ship life

  • Not falling into the ocean :)

Team support is very important and all members of the crew are required to assist each other
when required

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Experience as a deckhand or the aptitude to be trained, but for top-end superyachts, there are no specific qualifications, a background in or ship life is an advantage. (i.e fishing, operating small boats, handling lines, docking, plumbing systems etc. )

  • Ability to read and write English as well as render, understand and react to commands given in English.

  • Experience as a deckhand or guide in a similar fashion.

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

Willing and able to:

  • Be away from home for extended periods

  • Push/pull up to 100 pounds

  • Lift/carry up to 100 pounds floor to shoulder

  • Lift up to 50 pounds floor to overhead

  • Climb stairs/ladders

 

ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Some experience, guiding, fishing or driving small boats is preferable

 

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES (to be acquired by 1st day of charter season)

  • MED A2

  • Marine Medical Examination

  • SVOP

 

LENGTH OF CONTRACT

Relief and training throughout 2018 season - dependent on commitment and capabilities
